Maundy Thursday begins the Three Days (or Easter Triduum) in the Church liturgical calendar, which culminate at sundown on Easter Sunday. On Maundy Thursday we remember the new commandment that Christ gave us as He taught us how to love one another, washing our feet as a servant.
During this service we will have a visual reminder of Jesus washing the feet of His disciples. We also celebrate the Lord’s Supper together in remembrance of the last Passover supper shared by Jesus and His disciples in the upper room. To close the service we take the candles and all linens from the Altar, so that it is left empty. This is called the 'stripping of the altar' and is a sombering moment as we prepare to remember the death of the Lord Jesus on Good Friday, April 3rd.
This service is includes a children's program called 'Stations of Remembrance'.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16
