While the Breakfasts are an opportunity to learn about our own members within our community, the one-day retreat held in March has become a chance to hear teaching or testimony from men outside of the St. James community. The speaker and theme change each year, but the general focus of the retreat has been to focus on an aspect of discipleship. For instance, previous retreats have focused on how and why we draw near to God, or how we identify and use our spiritual gifts in our Christian walk.

There are two talks throughout the day, with meals, activities and time for discussion in between. Retreats have recently been held at Camp Evergreen, near Sundre, AB, which provides opportunity for horseback trail rides, a climbing wall, archery, and a zipline for which St. James holds the record for the oldest user! A prayer chapel is maintained throughout the day for anyone who wishes to seek prayer for any reason, and there is always hot coffee available, and usually some fresh treats, for anyone who simply wants to relax and have a chat.
